It is not unusual for customers to receive estimates on remodeling projects that vary substantially in price. Often we are asked, "Why are the prices so different? We thought all the contractors we interviewed are of the same quality! We are confused." If this occurs, you're probably not getting prices from equivalent contractors.

If you're hiring a qualified professional, who ARE you hiring, and why risk it?

BEFORE you sign a contract is the best time to determine which contractor will best satisfy your needs. The following are questions you might find useful in determining if there's a good match between yourself and a contractor:

• How long has the contractor been in business?
• Does the contractor have a history of similar projects and a history of servicing projects during the warranty period?
• Is the contractor a member of any trade organizations such as the National Association of the Remodeling Industry?
